Annual flowers need to be planted each year but give a blast of color all season long until a hard frost comes. Annuals add the finishing touch to a landscape that allows you to personalize your yard with choices of every color under the rainbow.
We make it easy for you to succeed with your flower beds and containers! Our staff is always available to guide you to choose the right plants for the right spot. Take advantage of our expert tips so that your flowers will flourish.
From April through October we have two huge greenhouses stocked full of beautiful flowers for you to browse and shop in comfort. In one house the plants are arranged by flower color so that you can easily color theme your beds and containers in one spot. In the other greenhouse, the plants are arranged alphabetically for those who prefer to shop in a more traditional manner. If you love flowers, Wilson's is the place to go.
Depending on the flowers you choose, beautiful color is available in any size from small packs of starter plants primed to explode in growth to large 8 inch pots of color that will give you an instant finished look to your beds.
Call before you come to make sure the plants you desire are currently in stock.

The best flowers start with a well prepared bed
Most flowers love soft well-drained soils. To turn even the worst dirt into “Super Soil”, add organic matter. We have had great success in our own display gardens with tilling in BUMPER CROP. This is a superior organic compost fortified with the right organic nutrients that enriches and loosens any soil. |

Select Well
Sun-loving plants generally do poorly in shade, and shade-loving plants scorch in the sun. Each kind of plant is well marked to determine where it goes best. You usually need 2 or 3 sizes of flowers to give your bed a three dimensional look. Solid blocks of color show better than flower mixes. Think of yourself painting your landscape with a paint brush. Our staff is always there to help you out if you want. |

Plant Carefully
Feed the roots by scattering MASTER START and rake into the soil. This is a high phosphate granular fertilizer that is mixed into the soil that causes the plant to establish quickly. With annual flowers we suggest spreading 2 of bark mulch on your beds before you plant any flowers. When you plant, dip the plant roots into a bucket of ROOTMASTER. This rooting hormone will stimulate new roots and get the plant off to a fast start. Scrape the roots with your fingers to break up the outside roots a bit. With a trowel move the mulch aside slightly and plant the plant and press the soil around the roots. Water thoroughly. |

Tidy your beds on a regular basis
Keep the weeds from getting a good start. It is much easier to remove them when they are small. Mulch will keep 90% of the weeds out. Scattering PREEN on the soil after the flowers are planted will keep many other annual weeds from germinating. Remove dead blossoms when you are in your beds looking for weeds. This “deadheading” is needed only on dead blooms that are unsightly or where you see seed pods. Deadheading extends the flowering period of most flowers and keeps your bed sharper looking. Water only as needed by soaking the beds without watering the leaves much. Lots of sprinkler watering on the leaves promotes disease and rotting in the plants. Fertilize every 2 weeks with BUD AND BLOOM for your best flower show. |
